![]() I found that, used as intended, they tended to overheat in use because they were in essentially sealed enclosures. Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex externals used to (and may still) have Barracuda XT drives inside. (I always ignore that if it doesn't work when I just plug it in and do my own formatting and partitioning, I won't use it.) In some instances, that installed software then becomes a silent partner in the operation of the external, and if it wasn't installed on your replacement internal, there could be problems with the external.įWIW, here's another data point. Most of these externals come with their own software, which their instructions often tell you to install on your boot drive. One other thing comes to mind, though it's probably a long shot. ![]() ![]() Any recommendations on where I can go to get data off it, before I have to reformat? ![]() and if i do that, I loose all data/photos. But it sounds like, if I want to fix it, I need to reformat it.
